Do You Like Word Sorts?

 Hi!

Are you counting down the days until summer break? I think most of us are! This time of year goes by quickly. If you are like most teachers you are already beginning to think about school for next year. What will my classroom theme be, what type of literacy and math stations do I want to have, what do I want to change about my classroom for next year? So many ideas are running through your head! Maybe I can help with an idea for a literacy station.

                                            Word Sorts
I always have some type of word sort as a literacy station. Sorting is a very valuable activity. A word sort requires children to group words into different categories. Through word sorts, children will learn how to decode by analogy, differentiate spelling patterns, and recognize the relationship between written language and individual sounds. With these skills children can decode new words and identify familiar words quickly which will lead to proficient reading.
Keeping this in mind, I have created a new packet of word sorts that I have now uploaded into my TpT store. Here are a few pictures of the one of the sorts:
This is the homophone sort that is in the packet.

When sorting the words you can use the sorting mats or the category headers. The category headers can be used on a table or desk top or can be used in a pocket chart.

This is the response sheet for students to record the sort.

This is a picture of the sorting mats that can be used.

This is my new packet, you can click on the picture and go to my TpT store and check it out!!

Hooray!! Tomorrow is Friday!!

We have A Winner And Bulletin Board Pictures!

If you entered the big Teacher Appreciation Blog Hop we have our winners!

And here they are!!

 Congratulations Linda K.!

Congrats Emma!

Congrats Kayrn W.!
Wow, I am so excited for all of you, there are some great prizes!! Enjoy!

Summer is upon us and time for some fun in the sun! Believe it or not some teachers (like myself) are already thinking about the beginning of school next year. I wanted to share a picture of one of the bulletin boards I used to welcome my new class. My grade level had a movie theme, and as you know I am the pig lady, so I had to find some way to incorporate movies with a pig. Now I could have used actual movies like Charlotte's Web, or Babe, Pig in the City, but I wanted something a little more unusual. I came up with the idea of using a pig for each student and the pig is walking the Red Carpet. Here are a few of the pics. Instead of Welcome to Hollywood, I called it Welcome to Hoggywood!

 More classroom pictures coming later!

Take It and Make It Thursday and A Freebie!

 Hello!!
It is Thursday and time for me to link up with my good friend Cynthia over at 2nd Grade Pad for her Take It and Make It Linky!!
If you haven't linked up yet, hop on over and get to it!

Today I have a take it and make it that is a little preview of a packet I am working on for my TpT store. It is beginning multiplication and has the 1's for students to use at a math station or individually. They can also be used as a small group lesson or as a needs based lesson. Students that finish work early could also use these as extra practice.

The packet that I am working on will go higher in number, but right now I thought I would offer this part as a freebie!

Just print the game out on card stock, cut out, and laminate! I usually keep my games in some kind of fun tin or plastic container. In this case I am using a tin with apples!

Just click on the picture and grab this freebie in Google Docs!
